Harvey Case Will Join CHC in 2020 as New CEO

Carteret Health Care is pleased to announce the recruitment of their new Chief Executive Officer, William “Harvey” Case.

Case will succeed Dick Brvenik, who is retiring at the end of January 2020. Under Brvenik’s leadership, Carteret Health Care was the only North Carolina hospital in 2019 named in the Top 100 Rural & Community Hospital by iVantage Health Analytics. The organization was the only hospital in our region to earn Top 5% for Outstanding Patient Experience nationwide by Healthgrades in 2018 and was named one of American’s Best Hospitals for Orthopedics by the Women’s Choice Award in 2019. Additionally, in 2017, Carteret Health Care was recognized as a Most Wired Organization, 1 of 13 North Carolina hospitals to receive this recognition.

“It has been an honor to serve as Carteret Health Care’s CEO for the last 8½ years. I know that Harvey will continue Carteret Health Care’s commitment to providing the best health care possible to our community while providing efficient and effective health care services,” said Brvenik.

Reporting to the Board of Trustees, Case will lead, provide vision, and be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operational management for all areas of the hospital. He will inform and advise the hospital on current trends, issues, and activities in regional and national healthcare to facilitate policymaking and planning.

Case’s start date will coincide with Brvenik’s transition on or before February 1, 2020. Before accepting the CEO position at CHC, Case served as the president at Vidant Beaufort Hospital in Washington, North Carolina. He held this position for eight years. Prior to this, he served as president of Vidant Pungo Hospital, as well as president of Duplin General Hospital and vice president of finance/ operations at Vidant Community Hospitals.

“I am honored and humbled to be Carteret Health Care’s next CEO,” said Case. “I thank the members of the CHC’s Board for their confidence and trust in me, and I look forward to contributing to the success of Carteret Health Care.”

Tyler & Company, a full-service retained executive search firm specializing in recruiting top talent for healthcare, academic medicine, health, and life sciences, executed the search for CHC’s chief executive officer. It was led by Tyler & Company’s President Preston Smith and Assistant Vice President Charlotte Tinsley.

“Carteret is a dynamic health care system and serves an important role of providing access to affordable and quality healthcare with exceptional compassion and respect to the patients and families in Carteret County and the surrounding region,” Smith said. “Harvey Case understands, and has exemplified, the qualities of exceptional leadership and his recruitment represents the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the future of Carteret Health Care.”
