Introducing Coronary CTA to Improve Heart Health Outcomes

Morehead City, NC – Carteret Health Care is excited to announce the availability of coronary computed tomography angiography (CTA), a cutting-edge, non-invasive heart test that provides life-saving insights for those experiencing low to moderate chest pain. Coronary CTA is now the highest-recommended (Level I) diagnostic approach for chest pain assessment, offering a safer and more effective alternative to traditional stress testing. Recent data shows that patients who undergo coronary CTA enjoy longer, healthier lives, as this advanced test identifies coronary artery disease (CAD) earlier, enabling proactive treatment.

Unlike traditional stress tests, coronary CTA doesn’t require physical exertion or the use of nuclear isotopes, making it easier and more comfortable for patients, especially those with mobility concerns or conditions like COPD. The new test uses detailed imaging to confirm the presence of CAD, allowing patients to start beneficial therapies sooner and without the need for additional testing.

“We’re thrilled to introduce coronary CTA, a non-invasive test that offers a fast, accurate, and patient-friendly way to diagnose CAD and prevent future cardiac heart attacks and death,” said Dr. David Jessup, Medical Director of Carteret Health Care’s Cardiovascular Division. “Our protocol aligns with the latest guidelines and ensures both our patients and providers benefit from a streamlined, safer diagnostic process.”

Currently, coronary CTA is available for patients with BMIs up to 40, and plans are underway to expand this service with a new scanner, which will allow the test for patients with BMIs up to 50. With coronary CTA now available locally, Carteret Health Care continues to lead in offering innovative cardiovascular care for our community.
