NOVEMBER 15, 2024 – Carteret Health Care has once again earned an "A" Hospital Safety Grade this fall from The Leapfrog Group, a leading nonprofit that sets the benchmark for excellence in patient care. This prestigious recognition highlights Carteret Health's ongoing efforts to safeguard patients from preventable harm and errors, reaffirming its commitment to delivering the highest standards of safety and care.
"Receiving this recognition once again is a powerful testament to the exceptional dedication of everyone at Carteret Health Care," said Kyle Marek, CEO of Carteret Health Care. "This achievement underscores our relentless commitment to not only delivering high-quality patient care but also ensuring the highest standards of patient safety.”
The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog focused on patient safety, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.
The Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
“Achieving an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade is a significant accomplishment for Carteret Health Care,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “It reflects enormous dedication to your patients and their families, and your whole community should be proud. I extend my congratulations to Carteret Health Care, its leadership, clinicians, staff and volunteers for their tireless efforts to put patients first.”
As the sole community hospital in Carteret County, Carteret Health Care is also the only North Carolina hospital chosen to be a member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network. Local doctors and staff are able to use the latest research, diagnostic and treatment recommendations from Mayo Clinic to develop best treatment plans for Carteret patients.
Marek concludes, “Our patients can trust that their well-being is our top priority, and our culture is built on a foundation of safety, compassion, and excellence for them."
