Patricia Massey, RN of Carteret Health Care’s Third North Surgical department was awarded the 2019 Clapsadl Award in front of her peers, co-workers, family members and administration during a called meeting. Named in honor of Mildred Clapsadl, RN, the award recognizes the impact and importance of nursing on patient care.
Ms. Massey was one of many nominated from over 300 nurses, RNs and LPNs at Carteret Health Care. In addition to being a nurse, she also teaches Safe Sitter and is a team leader.
Pat Ausband, VP Patient Care Services presented the award to Ms. Massey and shared, “Having known Ms. Clapsadl’s work ethic and devotion, I am honored to recognize Ms. Massey for following in Ms. Clapsadl’s shoes.”
Patricia was selected because she exemplifies the highest level of commitment, clinical practice and leadership in the delivery of patient care. Her peers and co-workers shared a long list of compelling reasons why Patricia should be honored with the Clapsadl Nursing Excellence Award.”
One nomination shared, “I have worked side by side with Patricia on many occasions over the past year and half. Every day is a new adventure with her. The pride she takes in her work is contagious.”
Another nomination stated that her “go get them attitude” is the best ever. She always goes that extra mile. She stands out from the crowd with her explosive personality and witty conversations. The patients love her and know her by name. She gives that extra personal touch to each of her patients. She takes the time to engage with them, learn about their life, their family, their likes and dislikes.
A peer shared that Patricia is quick to advocate for her patients. She does not mind asking questions and standing up for what she feels in heart is right and just. Patricia is always asking other nurses and CNAs if she can help them with their tasks. If she sees someone struggling to catch up, she jumps in with both feet first, just to help them.
Another team member stated, she is a true team player. When I think of Carteret Health Care’s Model, “Where Compassion Runs Deep” Patricia is the model example of “Where Compassion Runs Deep”. More than her being an excellent nurse, her love for her career, her patients, and her peers goes without ever having to question or ask.
As a recipient of the Clapsadl Nursing Excellence Award, Ms. Massey will receive an expense paid trip to a national nursing convention of her choice, and $200 cash. She will also be challenged to continue to display excellence in nursing, act as a role model for nursing at Carteret Health Care, and serve on the Recognition Committee for one year.
Carteret Health Care recognizes nursing excellence twice per year in the fall/winter for the Clapsadl Award and in May for the Georgia Lewis Award. The Clapsadl & Lewis Nursing Excellence Awards are open to all clinical RNs and LPNs at Carteret Health Care who have a minimum of three consecutive years of employment and a minimum of 1000 hours worked each of these years.
Nominations for Excellence Awards may be submitted by letter to Hospital Administration describing how the individual demonstrates excellence in nursing or professionalism and are due 30 days prior to the announced presentation date.
