Volunteers
Carteret Health Care is fortunate to have many volunteers who give thousands of hours of their time and services in assisting the hospital, our patients, and employees.
The talents and generosity of this dedicated group are expressed throughout the hospital. Volunteers may choose to work directly with patients and visitors or support hospital staff. Over 100 volunteers make a difference by assisting with directions, escorting patients and visitors, assisting staff with clerical tasks, computer assistance, keeping supplies well stocked, or keeping patients informed of schedule changes. Some volunteers keep our visitors rooms well stocked with books or magazines and some help patients and families in their time of need as an Emergency Department Liaison or greeting patients and visitors as they enter the hospital lobby.
There are also opportunities to work from home. Sewing ladies make stockinette caps for all the newborns and stuffed toys for our littlest patients. Volunteers knit shawls, blankets and hats for patient comfort.
The Volunteers sponsor many fundraisers during the year. The Gift Gallery is one of the most important fundraising efforts. It’s more than just a "hospital gift shop." Along with a beautiful assortment of fresh flowers, the shop has a large assortment of gift ideas and decorative accessories for the home. Funds raised by the Volunteers help purchase medical equipment and fund renovations to enhance patient care and provide scholarships for students entering the health field.
Volunteers are necessary to provide the extras that add so much to our patient's comfort. Their unselfish dedication is appreciated by patients, employees and visitors. Anyone interested in learning more about volunteer opportunities is encouraged to call the Volunteer Director's office at 252-499-6646 or e-mail volunteer@carterethealth.org.
