Carteret Health Care Recognized by Healthgrades for Outstanding Patient Experience

(May 8, 2018) – Carteret Health Care announced today that it has achieved the Healthgrades 2018 Outstanding Patient Experience Award™ which recognizes Carteret among the top 5 percent of hospitals nationwide. According to Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals, this distinction recognizes Carteret Health Care as the only hospital in the region* to be a recipient of this distinction and only 1 of 5 hospitals in North Carolina to be named Top 5% for Patient Experience.

Healthgrades evaluated 3,478 hospitals that submitted at least 100 patient experience surveys to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), covering admissions from April 2016 to March 2017 to identify hospital performance in this area.

“Carteret’s patients like many patients throughout the country are move informed than ever regarding what to expect while receiving care in a hospital,” said Dick Brvenik, Carteret Health Care President. “Our goal is to meet and exceed patient’s expectations and I am proud that Carteret Health Care’s staff has been recognized for providing such exceptional care.”

Healthgrades evaluated hospital performance by applying a scoring methodology to 10 patient experience measures, using data collected from a standardized 32-question patient experience survey of each hospital’s own patients. The national survey questions focus on patients’ perspectives of their care in a hospital. The topics of these questions ranged from cleanliness and noise levels in patient rooms to factors such as pain management and responsiveness to patients’ needs. The measures also include whether a patient would recommend the hospital to friends or family.

In order to be recognized by Healthgrades, hospitals must meet eligibility requirements for consideration, which includes clinical performance thresholds in addition to a minimum of 100 survey responses. Nationally, almost 3,000 hospitals met those requirements with 439 hospitals outperforming their peers—based on their patients’ responses—to achieve this distinction. Carteret Health Care’s performance places it among the top 5% in the nation.

“Patient experience surveys offer important insights about hospitals and their commitment to providing patients with outstanding experience, and furthermore, consumers value that information when making care decisions,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Healthgrades. “Hospitals that have received the Healthgrades 2018 Outstanding Patient Experience Award have received high marks from their most important stakeholders—the patients themselves.”

This achievement further validates Carteret’s commitment to the community in providing high-quality, cost effective care which is available locally. As a sole community hospital, Carteret remains focused on growing essential services to better serve its population and the distinction comes after other recent recognitions such as being noted with the highest NC Maternity Center Breastfeeding-Friendly Designation from the NC Division of Public Health and for receiving the most Get With The Guideline awards of any North Carolina hospital for heart failure, stroke, atrial fibrillation and resuscitation care.

“The Hospital’s Board of Directors is completely dedicated to the health and well-being of our community and the region we serve. We are deeply appreciative for the commitment of Carteret’s expert nurses, doctors and all staff who are continuously monitoring what our patients need and want on a daily basis,” stated Pat Joyce, Chairman, Carteret Health Care Board of Directors. “It is a true honor for Carteret Health Care and all its staff to be recognized among this elite group of outstanding health care providers in the nation.”
